Happy Tuesday, fellow humans. 👋

Apple finally showed off its highly anticipated Vision Pro headset that brings AR/VR to life. It’s safe to say that the launch lived up to the hype.

You know what’s more interesting, though? Apple presenters didn’t say “AI” or “artificial intelligence” even once during the entire 2 hour presentation…

Let’s dive into it…

🏷️ EU wants to label AI-generated content

The EU loves cracking down on technology, and AI seems no different.

This week, the EU is urging social media companies, including Google and Meta, to label AI-generated content and images as part of a plan to combat fake news and disinformation from Russia.

The EU also warned Twitter that it would face sanctions if it does not comply with new digital content laws.

Why the sanctions? 2 weeks ago, Twitter quit the EU’s voluntary code of practice. This action could result in a fine as high as 6% of its global revenue or be banned across the EU if it does not operate under the aegis of the Digital Services Act.

The EU wants the AI content to be clearly labeled in a way that registers with distractedly scrolling users, with words such as "this is the robot talking."

That might be a little too on the nose, no?

Overall: The EU is asking companies to combat the "dark side" of AI, which can potentially fake events and voices within seconds.

And they do have a point… the fire near the Pentagon ring any bells? Maybe the AI drone that killed its operator? (P.S. all things that didn’t happen)

I can see where the EU is coming from.

🪧 Stack Overflow moderators threaten to protest

Much like Hollywood, moderators at Stack Overflow, the Q&A forum for programmers, announced that they would go on strike to protest the moderation policy allowing AI-generated content to be published openly on the platform.

S/O argues that the over-moderation of AI-generated content is turning away human contributors.

Moderators, on the other hand, claim that this directive will allow frequently incorrect AI content to “run rampant on the forum,” threatening the integrity and trustworthiness of the platform.
