1️⃣ Amazon bets big on Anthropic

Amazon is investing up to $4 billion in Anthropic, a monumental move that positions Amazon Web Services (AWS) as the primary cloud provider for the AI safety and research company.

Why is this important?

  • The collaboration will allow Anthropic to use AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips to train its AI foundation models.

  • AWS customers will have access to Anthropic's model customization features and fine-tuning capabilities early.

2️⃣ ChatGPT debuts Multimodal AI capabilities

What a week for OpenAI.

1/ ChatGPT can finally access the internet (again).

2/ ChatGPT can now “see” and will soon be able to “hear.”

  • ChatGPT can understand images, allowing users to discuss and troubleshoot topics based on pictures.

  • Users can engage in voice conversations with the chatbot, select from five different voices, and utilize speech recognition technology for more natural interactions.

TL;DR: Multimodal AI is officially here.

3️⃣ Amazon’s Bedrock service is now available for general use

Amazon launched its Bedrock generative AI service in general availability, offering clients a choice of generative AI models from Amazon and third-party partners through an API.

Here’s what this means:

  • AWS customers can build and customize apps on these models with their own data.

  • The platform also allows brands and developers to create AI "agents" that automate tasks.

Amazon also announced the rollout of its Titan Embeddings model, which converts text to numerical representations to power search and personalization applications.

4️⃣ Adobe launches Photoshop’s web version

After nearly two years in beta, Adobe has launched the web version of Photoshop for users with paid plans.

Here’s what Adobe has in store:

  • Firefly: The web version includes Firefly-powered AI tools like generative fill and generative expand.

  • Collaboration: Users can easily collaborate on files by sharing links, even if they don't have a subscription.

  • Future updates: Adobe plans to add the patch tool and smart object support ASAP.

5️⃣ The Smart Goggles era has returned

Meta AI finally makes its debut! In a soon-to-be-released update, Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses will introduce Meta AI, a digital assistant that can analyze your surroundings and help you run your day-to-day life.

Key features include:

  • Enhanced video and photo capabilities: A new 12MP ultrawide camera and a five-mic system deliver crisp 1080p videos and high-res photos.

  • Volume: It boasts custom-designed speakers with extended bass, higher volume, and improved directional audio.

  • Sleek, powerful, and long battery: Meta’s redesigned charging case is 32 percent lighter than usual and gives you an extra 32 hours of power on the move.

6️⃣ Spotify clones podcasters’ voices

Spotify has teamed up with OpenAI to introduce a new AI-powered feature that allows podcasters to instantly translate their shows into other languages using their own voices.

This feature relies on OpenAI's Whisper tool, which can transcribe and translate speech, making the content more authentic and accessible worldwide.

Big-name podcasters like Lex Fridman, Bill Simmons, and Steven Bartlett are already on board to translate their English-language episodes into Spanish, with French and German translations to follow.

7️⃣ Whoop introduces its newest ‘coach’

Whoop just announced its new "Whoop Coach" feature, powered by ChatGPT.

TL;DR:

  • It is a health and fitness-focused chatbot that pulls from the user's Whoop data, offering insights into user well-being and performance.

  • It delivers personalized recommendations and data insights to users.

  • The chatbot can also handle general health and fitness questions and customer support queries.

8️⃣ Cloudflare launches AI tools to help customers deploy and run models

Cloudflare has launched a suite of products and apps to help customers build, deploy, and run AI models at the network edge.

These include:

  • Workers AI: allows customers to access nearby GPUs, paying only for what they use.

  • Vectorize: provides a vector database to store vector embeddings, which is critical for various ML applications.

  • AI Gateway: provides observability features to track AI traffic and optimize costs with caching and rate-limiting

Cloudflare aims to simplify AI management, focusing on cost savings, and ensure AI inference happens on GPUs close to users for a low-latency user experience.

9️⃣ Microsoft goes nuclear to support its AI

Microsoft is considering using microreactors for its energy-intensive AI projects and to power its data centers, particularly those used for Cloud and AI services.

This move is driven by AI's soaring energy and water demands, with Microsoft's sustainability report highlighting a 30% increase in water consumption to cool its AI supercomputers.

Microsoft's move into nuclear power underscores the extent to which AI is reshaping technology infrastructure and driving companies to seek alternative energy sources to sustain their ambitions.

Google has launched a range of training resources centered on generative AI.

  • The “Introduction to Generative AI” path includes non-technical courses suited for sales, marketing, HR, and operations roles.

  • The “Generative AI for Developers” path includes technical hands-on labs and courses designed for software developers and engineers.

The courses provide a mix of theory and practical experience, including video courses, hands-on labs, and opportunities to earn skill badges. The training materials will be continually updated to keep pace with the latest developments in the field.
