Over the weekend, Warren Buffett shared his insights on the future of AI during Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholder meeting.
In broad terms, Buffett expressed considerable concern about the potential misuse of AI for large-scale scams and fraudulent activities.
He suggested, "If I had an inclination to invest in scams, it would be the most promising growth sector, and AI would play a significant role in enabling it."
He also highlighted the potential of AI to create misleading content, such as deepfake videos and voice cloning, which could be exploited by malicious individuals to impersonate others and deceive people into transferring money.
Plus, while recognizing AI's positive potential, Buffett stated, "It holds tremendous promise for good, but also a high risk of harm."
Despite not being an expert on the technology, however, he compared its societal impact to the emergence of nuclear weapons in the 20th century.
He added, "We unleashed a force we couldn't control when we developed nuclear weapons, and that force has been causing havoc lately. Its power frightens me considerably." He sees a similar pattern with AI: "It's already having an impact, and it will significantly alter our society in the future."
Overall: Despite the significant market surges and hype surrounding AI on Wall Street, Buffett advises careful consideration of the potential unintended consequences before diving headfirst into this new frontier.

AI achievements continue to rewrite history books.
Recently, Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall took the first flight in an experimental F-16 fighter jet, which was entirely controlled by AI. The AI-powered dogfight at Edwards Air Force Base showcased the advanced technology that the U.S. military is actively developing for future aerial warfare.
Kendall personally observed as the AI-controlled Vista F-16 executed rapid maneuvers at over 550 mph, exerting five times the force of gravity on his body. The AI jet went head-to-head with another human-piloted F-16, twisting and looping to gain an offensive position.
After the hour-long AI-controlled flight, Kendall expressed his trust in this continually learning system to eventually make decisions about launching weapons in combat, albeit with human oversight. However, arms control experts caution against entrusting lethal strike decisions solely to AI.
Overall: The Pentagon views affordable unmanned AI jets as crucial for maintaining air superiority as competitors like China rapidly expand their forces and develop counter-air capabilities. By 2028, the Air Force aims to have over 1,000 unmanned AI aircraft providing expendable offensive air power.

There has been a lot of talk recently on AI’s ability to aid in drug design and discovery.
Pharmaceutical companies like Eli Lilly are already using GenAI to explore millions of potential drug molecule designs, generating novel candidates that have surprised researchers. A watershed moment, however, was DeepMind's 2021 AlphaFold breakthrough, which showed AI could creatively solve protein structures key to drug development.
Experts predict within just a few years, AI will go beyond assisting to design entirely new drugs that humans could not conceive independently. By representing the world of biology and chemistry in powerful AI models, the technology can "hallucinate" and test therapeutic possibilities at a scale far beyond traditional empirical lab methods.
For example, while biological evolution is limited to the finite proteins nature provides, AI can explore a virtually infinite set of possible protein-based therapies never seen before. Researchers are already using AI to optimize engineered proteins, dramatically improving drug yields.
Overall: The digitization of biology allows unsupervised AI models to rapidly learn patterns and interactions across massive datasets, from spatial genome scans to chemical compound libraries. AI can then simulate and predict therapeutic potential, accelerating discovery timelines from years to months with higher success rates.
