🏰 Tome raises $43M for AI storytelling (pre-revenue)

Tome, a productivity software powered by AI that enables users to create presentations, stories, 3D prototypes, and more, just raised $43M at a valuation of $300 million. Yes, you read that correctly. 🫢

Those numbers are even more astonishing knowing that Tome is still pre-revenue (although it’s expected to launch its enterprise version this year.)

Tome was created out of frustration with PowerPoint and is described as a modern alternative to PowerPoint and Slides.

Tome launched in September 2020 and has since reached 1 million users.

🚀 A day filled with AI launches

Yesterday saw the announcement of several noteworthy AI apps / features. Here are my top 3:

Spotify announced a new AI-powered DJ feature that curates and commentates on personalized playlists and can switch between genres or artists.

Notion’s AI capabilities (demo’d here) are now available to all customers. Users can generate text from scratch, rewrite text in different tones, summarize articles or notes, generate task lists, and do translations.

Raycast released a new AI tool for Mac users that uses AI technology to help users write smarter, code faster and answer questions quicker.

Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have released Artifact, an AI-powered personalized news app for iOS and Android.

🤑 AI Fundraising News

Spoke AI raises ~$2.1M pre-seed: Using generative AI to pull signal from workplace noise.

Kaito raises $5.3M: Improve browsing with AI, ChatGPT

Replicate raises $17.8M: Provides a cloud platform to run machine learning models. It has raised $17.8 million in venture capital.

OpenAI’s Foundry will let customers buy dedicated compute to run its AI models [TechCrunch] - OpenAI is launching a new developer platform that lets customers run the company's newer machine learning models on dedicated compute. The platform is designed for larger workloads and lets users run models with full control over the configuration and performance. The platform will be available to customers who want to run AI models at scale and who want to monitor the performance of a single model. (Read more)

JPMorgan restricts staff from using ChatGPT [Axios] - JPMorgan Chase is restricting its staff's use of ChatGPT because of concerns that the bot could be used to spread misinformation. (Read more)

The Kindle Store has a prolific new author: ChatGPT [Engadget] - ChatGPT is listed as the author or co-author of at least 200 books on Amazon's Kindle Store. Amazon's policies don't explicitly require authors to disclose their use of AI to write books. (Read more)
