🦙 Is Meta’s LLaMA now truly open-source after leak?

Meta's LLaMA AI language model was released as an open-source package to spur research into its problems, but it was leaked on 4chan a week later.

This has spurred a debate about the impact of open access to AI systems, with some arguing that safeguards need to be developed while others are worried about the potential for malicious use.

Downloading the system requires a lot of time, expertise, and right hardware, and the model has yet to be "fine-tuned" for conversation.

The leak has sparked discussion about the proper way to share cutting-edge research, and it can potentially reduce trust between companies and the academics they share their research.

🦆 DuckDuckGo builds AI

DuckDuckGo, the privacy-first search engine, has launched a new AI-based tool called DuckAssist which provides summaries of information from Wikipedia as part of its search engine. It’s triggered when users enter questions with straightforward answers in Wikipedia, and the responses are AI-generated summaries.

DuckAssist is available on mobile apps and browser extensions but may be added to the web search engine if the trial succeeds. It uses OpenAI and Anthropic language models and does not share personally identifiable information.
