šŸ’˜ Spending Valentineā€™s Day with an AI chatbot? Be carefulā€¦

This Valentineā€™s Day, some folks (šŸ‘€) will be using AI to write a Valentineā€™s Day card.

And some folks wonā€™t have to write a Valentineā€™s Day card because theyā€™re dating an AI chatbot. (Donā€™t worry, I donā€™t judge.)

Due to the surging popularity of AI chatbots and experts are warning users to be aware of the increasing number of AI scams ahead of Valentine's Day.

Scammers are using AI chatbots to appear legitimate and trick people into trusting them. Given how good these AI chatbots are getting, scammers are getting trickier to dodge.

Some policymakers are acting quickly. The controversial ā€œvirtual companionā€ app, Replika, was recently banned in Europe after experts warned there is a strong potential for misuse, such as phishing messages.

Last year, of the 1,249 complaints of romance scams made to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, victims reported a total of more than $50 million lost. The Better Business Bureau has seen a 13% increase in romance scams from the previous year, and the first two months of 2022 have seen more than double the reported cases from 2021.

Just remember: itā€™s important to be wary of scammers on these platforms and to never send money or personal information to someone you have never met.

šŸ›©ļø AI flies military aircraft for 17 hours

Just in case you havenā€™t been hearing enough aircraft / UFO-related news lately, hereā€™s another headline for you. šŸ›ø

In December, an AI agent flew a Lockheed Martin VISTA X-62A training aircraft for over 17 hours. This is the first time AI has been used to operate a tactical aircraft to this extent.

Lockheed's skunkworks division, with the help of Calspan, worked to build the aircraft for the US Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base. The aircraft was upgraded with the latest technology from Lockheed, which utilized AI to help with advanced flight tests.

I wonder if an AI is flying all those ā€œspy balloonsā€ too? šŸ™ƒ

AI experts, professors reveal how ChatGPT will radically alter the classroom: ā€˜Age of the creatorā€™ [Fox News] - AI experts and professors have discussed the potential benefits and risks of using AI technology, such as ChatGPT, in classrooms. While ChatGPT and other forms of AI can help to accelerate innovation, there are potential risks to academic integrity. To avoid these risks, it is important to understand the technology and disclose when it is being used. Additionally, educators should ensure that students have a strong foundation of knowledge to understand how to use AI tools.

Is AI coming for your job? ChatGPT renews fears [ABC News] - AI has become more prominent during the pandemic, raising fears that it could lead to job displacement and inequality. However, so far job losses have not been significant and the job market is still very tight. AI experts believe that AI has the potential to improve productivity and increase compensation for some jobs, but those who lack the right skills may be left behind. Education and skills programs could help workers transition to new jobs, and society must decide how to best implement AI in order to ensure a positive outcome for the workforce.

David Guetta says the future of music is in AI [BBC News] - David Guetta has said that AI will be used as a tool to create new sounds in the future, and that every new music style emerges from a new technology. He recently used AI to create a vocal in the style of Eminem for a live show, but will not be releasing the track commercially. Fans have reacted positively and negatively to the experiment, with some impressed and others concerned about the proliferation of AI. AI-generated songs have become increasingly popular on TikTok, with fans using software to make existing songs sound like other artists. Nick Cave recently wrote a scathing review of an AI system that tried to write a song in his style.
