⚔️ Elon Musk, cofounder of OpenAI, developing OpenAI alternative

Elon Musk is recruiting a team of AI researchers to form a new research lab to develop an alternative to the OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT.

Musk, a cofounder of OpenAI, has been critical of OpenAI's content safeguards, which he believes to be an example of "training AI to be woke."

His lab’s goal is to improve the reliability and factualness of language models and not create a chatbot with fewer content safeguards.

Musk has tapped Igor Babuschkin, who recently left Alphabet’s DeepMind AI unit, to spearhead the effort. He has emerged as a culture warrior and hero to right-wing figures for his criticism of political correctness and the spread of the "woke mind virus."

👻 Snapchat launches AI avatar

Snapchat has announced the addition of an OpenAI chatbot called "My AI", to their platform.

My AI is meant to be a virtual friend based on OpenAI's GPT-3.5 technology. Restrictions have been implemented to ensure it follows Snapchat's trust and safety guidelines, but mistakes may still occur.

“My AI” will initially be available for Snapchat+ subscribers for $3.99 per month. The company plans to expand the feature to all users eventually.

“Anything you can do, I can do better” - Mark Zuckerberg to Evan Spiegel, probably.

Meta is creating a new product group focused on generative AI and building AI personas into their chat apps such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and other video and multi-modal experiences.

These AI personas will help users with creative and expressive tools.

This initiative comes after the success of OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT, and other companies such as Microsoft, Snapchat and Google have also been developing AI-related projects.

Although Meta has doubled down on the metaverse, a brief foray into generative AI makes sense, as generative AI tools can help turbo-charge the creation of metaverse worlds.
