Google's annual developer conference, Google I/O, is just around the corner, and all signs are pointing towards AI taking center stage once again.
While Google has prioritized AI for years, the meteoric rise of OpenAI's ChatGPT has raised the stakes.
Here’s what we can expect:
Google will spend a significant time showcasing its advanced AI model, Gemini, and outlining how it will be infused across the company's vast array of products and services.
A major focus will likely be on enhancing Google Search with GenAI capabilities to provide more conversational and multimodal search experiences.
We may also see demos of using AI for things like language learning, shopping, and instructions overlaid in augmented reality.
Google's mobile operating system, Android, and apps like Google Maps are also fresh grounds for AI integration.
Rumors suggest new AI-driven features to aid with tasks like finding EV charging stations, waiting on hold for customer service calls, and getting personalized recommendations.
The Pixel smartphone line could evolve into a true "AI gadget" with the potential debut of a new "Pixie" digital assistant leveraging Gemini.
There's also chatter of hardware teasers for the Pixel 9 series and a follow-up to the recent foldable Pixel device.
Overall: While hardware may take a back seat, make no mistake - Google I/O 2024 will be a full-court press to position Google as the AI leader across consumer and enterprise products and services.

🧑🤝🧑 AI personas for dating?
Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder and executive chair of the dating app Bumble, caused a stir on social media last week by suggesting that AI could revolutionize dating and relationships.
Speaking at the Bloomberg Tech Summit, Herd proposed a scenario where single people could create AI "dating concierges" to interact with prospective matches on their behalf.
"There is a world where your dating concierge could go and date for you with another dating concierge...and then you don't have to talk to 600 people," she said. Herd argued AI could help "create more healthy and equitable relationships" by assisting with communication and offering dating advice.
The idea drew a mixed response online.
While some saw the potential for AI to enhance the dating experience, others expressed concerns. A clip of Herd's comments got over 10 million views on X, with many comparing the concept to dystopian sci-fi and fearing it could increase isolation.
Despite the backlash, Bumble seems intent on exploring AI's role in dating and human connection. A spokesperson said the company envisions "a future where AI can continue to foster positive relationships,” pointing to existing AI features like match recommendations and spam detection.
Overall: Herd also suggested that Bumble may move beyond dating and become "a true human connection platform" for finding friends, activities partners, and more in the coming years.

SoundHound AI, a leader in voice AI, recently announced its partnership with Perplexity to integrate the platform’s online LLM capabilities into SoundHound's Chat AI voice assistant.
Here are the deets:
The enhanced Chat AI will provide accurate, up-to-date responses to web-based queries that traditional static LLMs cannot currently handle.
SoundHound's proprietary technology allows for natural language interaction and access to a wide range of real-time knowledge domains, such as flight times, sports scores, music, restaurant search, and now Perplexity's incredible web search capabilities.
Chat AI was the world's first voice assistant with GenAI capabilities and the first deployed in production vehicles through a partnership with Stellantis. It utilizes arbitration technology to intelligently select appropriate responses and minimize harmful AI hallucinations.
Overall: By integrating Perplexity, SoundHound is raising the bar for voice assistants and the types of queries they can handle seamlessly. This enhancement will further benefit users as voice interfaces grow in popularity across automotive, IoT devices, and beyond.

🤖 OpenAI’s new product announcements are happening in a few hours. What are your predictions?
What I believe will be released tomorrow:
1. More integrations like calendar & email (maybe even notion & slack and a more open API)
2. A new GPT4 variant that does voice input and output (but can still do text).
3. A document viewer within chatGPT
4. GPT can search across past… x.com/i/web/status/1…— Otto von Zastrow (@OttoZastrow)
