Greetings, fellow humans. 👋

This is Not A Bot - the newsletter about AI that was definitely not written by AI. I’m Haroon, founder of AI For Anyone, and I share the latest news, tools, and resources from the AI space.

Happy Monday! How about that game last night?? (Or, as my wife calls it, the Rihanna concert with some football entertainment.)

It’s launch week (🥳) for us here at Not A Bot, and we can’t wait to announce Igniter officially tomorrow. 🤩

If you’re a builder in AI, you can find details below on getting set up on the platform before our midnight launch. Stay tuned!

Okay, let’s dive into it…

In today's edition:

  • 🏈 ChatGPT predicted the Super Bowl winner. Was it correct?

  • 🥷 We’re not ready for deepfake scams

  • 📣 Calling all AI builders! Big launch tomorrow!

Btw - We're giving away 10 Google AIY Kits (each valued at $100 USD)! Each kit gives you all the tools you need to build an AI-powered camera or speaker. More details are at the end of the email.

🏈 ChatGPT predicted the Super Bowl winner. Was it correct?

Be honest - who did you pick to win the Super Bowl yesterday?

ChatGPT also made an (unsolicited) prediction for the Super Bowl last week. But was it correct?

On Wednesday, the Associated Press tested the new AI enhancements to Microsoft's search engine, Bing, asking it "for the most important thing to happen in sports over the past 24 hours. This was shortly after LeBron James’ monumental achievement of passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time scoring record.

That’s what ChatGPT mentioned, right?

Wrong.

"Instead, it confidently spouted a false but detailed account of the upcoming Super Bowl — days before it's actually scheduled to happen."

ChatGPT responded to the question:

"It was a thrilling game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, two of the best teams in the NFL this season," Bing said. "The Eagles, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, won their second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history by defeating the Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, with a score of 31-28."

It kept going, describing the specific yard lengths of throws and field goals and naming three songs played in a "spectacular halftime show" by Rihanna.

While the Super Bowl did end up being a high-scoring affair like ChatGPT predicted, the Lombardi Trophy ended up in the hands of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. And the final score was 38-35.

The only thing it predicted correctly was a “spectacular halftime show” by Rihanna, but that’s a safe bet to make, anyway.

Maybe ChatGPT shouldn’t play clairvoyant for now?

🥷 Deepfake scams are getting really, really good

This ad for a libido booster went viral for all the wrong reasons.

The ad creator used deepfake technology to create a fake segment of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast where host Joe Rogan and guest Andrew Huberman (of the Huberman Lab podcast) “discussed” the libido booster and how to buy it.

Incredibly clever, but also incredibly deceiving.

As these technologies get better and better at fooling people, the need to establish regulations and “proof of authenticity” will become more important than ever.

In Coffeezilla’s words, “Deepfake scams are here, and we’re not ready.”

📣 Calling all AI builders! Igniter launching tomorrow…

The ChatGPT AI hype cycle is peaking, but even tech skeptics don’t expect a bust [CNBC] - The TEC Town Hall discussion revealed that the latest AI advances are being taken seriously, with Microsoft and Google competing over AI search engines, and AI being used to take over mundane tasks, leading to more efficient business processes and freeing up humans to do more important work. There are also risks to consider, such as inaccurate information, bias, and copyright issues, and concerns over responsible use of AI. Finally, the conversation made clear that the competition in AI between the US and China is heating up and the opportunities of AI are too great to ignore.

Scale AI: Why Data Will Power the AI Revolution [Index Ventures] - Scale AI was founded by Wang, a MIT dropout, to provide data infrastructure to power the AI revolution. Through the company's services like Rapid, customers are able to receive labels and instruction feedback for their AI in a matter of hours. Wang's cognitive rigor and technical competence have allowed him to build successful relationships and grow the company to employ hundreds. He is also an advocate for authenticity in hiring, believing that everyone should be focused on advancing the world. Wang believes that AI can be used to model the climate, improve healthcare, solve the food crisis, reduce international conflict, and more. He sees AI as a tool for humans to do incredible new things, rather than a replacement for them.

Meet Claude: Anthropic’s Rival to ChatGPT [Scale AI] - Claude, co-founded by former OpenAI employees, is an AI assistant which is similar to ChatGPT. In comparison to ChatGPT, Claude is more verbose and naturalistic in its writing, but is worse than ChatGPT in tasks such as code generation and reasoning through logic problems. Claude is also more aware of its own limitations and has a deeply ingrained set of ethical principles. Overall, Claude appears to be a serious competitor to ChatGPT with improvements in many areas.

CICERO: An AI agent that negotiates, persuades, and cooperates with people [Meta AI] - CICERO is an AI agent that has achieved human-level performance in the popular strategy game Diplomacy. It is able to use natural language to negotiate with people and can deduce the motivations and perspectives of other players. The agent was developed through combining two areas of AI research, strategic reasoning and natural language processing, and can generate purposeful dialogue to persuade other players. The code for CICERO has been open-sourced and could be used to advance research in human-AI interaction. It is hoped that CICERO's technology can be applied to other real-world applications in the future.
