💬 OpenAI releases the cheaper and better ChatGPT API
That loud noise you heard yesterday was developers around the world rejoicing.
Yesterday, OpenAI released an API for their ChatGPT and Whisper speech-to-text technologies.
The ChatGPT API can be used for more than chat interfaces, and the company is offering 1000 tokens for $0.002, making it 10x cheaper than the existing GPT-3.5 model!
Whisper is also available for use through an API for $0.006 per minute. Technically, Whisper is free, so you can run it on your own, but you’d likely save a lot of time by using OpenAI’s infrastructure.
Indeed, this will open the floodgates for developers to use OpenAI's technology. How many more chatbots are we going to see in March?

🔒 OpenAI will no longer use customer data to train its models by default
OpenAI has changed its API developer policy to address user criticism and will no longer use customer data to train its models unless customers opted-in.
The company has implemented a 30-day data retention policy, clarified data ownership, and removed the pre-launch review process for developers. (Tweet from Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI)
This is to make the platform more appealing and scale up, as OpenAI is under increasing pressure to turn a profit.
