🎨 A big day for AI in design

Amidst all the Google & Microsoft drama from this week, there was incredible progress in AI-assisted design. Two launches, both from design-centric startups, particularly stole the spotlight.

Diagram, a “design tools company reimagining UI design in the era of generative AI,” teased Genius, an AI design companion.

Genius is an AI design assistant that works alongside designers in Figma to supercharge their workflow.

Another launch that made a big splash yesterday was Galileo AI — a tool that lets you generate UI designs using natural language.

Whereas Genius will work alongside designers to augment their workflow, Galileo takes instructions from designers in plain English and translates them to design components.

Both demo videos are mind-blowing and give a glimpse into the future of not only design tooling but tooling in general.

We’re seeing incredible progress in the world of natural language processing, and it’s great to see the progress translate to incredible use cases outside of text generation like this one.

🗣️ NAB Expert Q&A Series: @xlr8harder

Today's guest is @xlr8harder, who runs one of my favorite AI-focused profiles on Twitter. You may recognize him from his rainbow-colored sunglasses-wearing cat avatar.

During our chat, we cover a range of topics, including:

  • Whether LLMs can think

  • What effective accelerationism is

  • What differentiates this tech revolution from previous ones

  • Who xl really is... (and is he a cat?)

Here’s a snippet:

This was one of my favorite conversations yet, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Check it out below: 👇

🗞️ Byte size: AI article summaries

Disclaimer: AI is (partially) used to summarize these articles.

Bill Gates thinks A.I. like ChatGPT is the ‘most important’ innovation right now [CNBC] - Bill Gates believes that AI is the most important innovation right now, and its applications such as OpenAI's ChatGPT can improve office efficiency. Gates also highlighted the potential of AI search to become a $10 billion business for Microsoft, as well as the competition between Microsoft and Google for leading in this space. He discussed the potential of A.I. for reading and writing, as well as its applications in healthcare and education. Gates believes that natural language platforms such as ChatGPT have potential applications in word processing and office tasks, and believes that progress in the next couple of years will be "profound".

Steve Wozniak’s A.I. warning: ChatGPT is ‘useful,’ but it can ‘make horrible mistakes’ [CNBC] - Steve Wozniak, a co-founder of Apple, has expressed skepticism about the increasing use of ChatGPT. He finds it "useful to humans" but warns that it can make "horrible mistakes" due to a lack of understanding of what "humanness" is. He has highlighted the dangers of self-driving cars as an example, and some other AI chatbots, such as Google's Bard, have made mistakes in the past, leading to costly consequences. Although ChatGPT can help humans with certain tasks, it cannot still understand "emotions and feelings about subjects" and can make blatant mistakes.
