Today’s theme: AI alliances 🀝

πŸ’Ό Bain 🀝 OpenAI

Bain & Company, a top management consulting firm, and OpenAI have announced an alliance to bring together Bain's digital implementation capabilities and strategic expertise with OpenAI's AI tools and platforms to help enterprise clients realize the value of AI.

This alliance will enable massive business transformation with the potential to automate accounts payable systems, improve payments speed and transparency, and create seamless, repeatable experiences. The first company to engage with the alliance is the Coca-Cola Company.

πŸ€— Hugging Face 🀝 Amazon

Amazon's cloud unit has partnered with AI startup Hugging Face to make Hugging Face's products, such as a language generation tool, available to cloud customers.

Hugging Face will build the next version of their language model, called BLOOM, on AWS, and they are also working on open-source rivals to ChatGPT.

The partnership is not exclusive, allowing Hugging Face to work with other providers. AWS customers can access Hugging Face AI tools through Amazon's SageMaker program, and developers can use Amazon's cloud computing power and AI chips.

No financial details have been disclosed, and Amazon did not invest in the startup.

πŸ—£οΈ NAB Expert Q&A: Amjad Masad, CEO of Replit

Today's guest is Amjad Masad, CEO of Replit, an AI-powered collaborative browser based IDE. Replit is crushing it, having just hit 20 million developers on its platform and launched a bunch of kickass AI features.

During our conversation, Amjad and I discussed:

  • Immigrating from Jordan to founding Replit

  • How Replit became a leading AI coding company

  • How AI will continue to impact coding

  • The skills it will take to succeed in the new-age of AI

This was one of my favorite conversations yet. Check it out here:

πŸ—žοΈ Byte size: AI article summaries

Disclaimer: AI is (partially) used to summarize these articles.

OpenAI CEO Says AI Will Give Medical Advice to People Too Poor to Afford Doctors [Futurism] - OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes that AI can be used to give medical advice to people who are too poor to afford doctors. However, there is reason to be skeptical about this idea due to AIs' tendency to hallucinate statements and make factual errors. Altman acknowledges that AI tools are still "somewhat broken" and that institutions need to figure out what to do with AI, but he is still convinced that AI will ultimately be a force for good. Despite this optimism, Altman is also a doomsday prepper, owning a patch of land in Big Sur in case of an "AI that attacks us"”

CNET Was Treating Staff Like Robots Long Before Publishing AI-Generated Articles [Futurism] - The author of this text recounts their experience working for CNET Money, a website owned by Red Ventures, which later was busted for using an AI system to churn out plagiarized and inaccurate content. The author was hired with the promise of ambitious journalism, but found themselves writing mortgage and credit card explainers instead and having their pitches for more meaningful stories rejected. When the author took disability leave and discovered CNET was using AI to generate articles, they resigned. Despite assurances from CNET leadership, the author felt misled and betrayed and requested their name be removed from the articles. In response, CNET removed the author's bio and contact form from the website.

Will Congress miss its chance to regulate generative AI early? [Fast Company] - Lawmakers are concerned about Congress's slow response to the last wave of tech, social media, and are now looking to create a regulatory regime for generative AI that would help protect consumers from potential harms. Several bills have been introduced, including a resolution from Congressman Ted Lieu. The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy released a "Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights." Senator Mark Warner has become more convinced that generative AI could be transformational. He believes that it may be the next big wave after social media. He is keen to avoid the mistakes of the past, where tech companies were allowed to "move fast and break things"” and instead put in place regulations that would protect against potential harms.
