šŸ›£ OpenAIā€™s plans

OpenAI has been leading the AI charge for the world these past couple of months, and while we knew their vision, we were not fully aware of what the company had planned for the future.

For the first time, Altman provided details on OpenAIā€™s future while highlighting the limitations AI currently faces.

Hereā€™s a summary:

  1. The GPU shortage is hurting their short-term plans. This means that the roll-out of the 32K window, which allows you to have longer text conversations, is slowing down. It also means that you cannot ā€œfine-tuneā€ or customize your GPT4 models just yet.

  2. The Plugins have not been a hit. People want ChatGPT within apps - not the other way around.

  3. OpenAIā€™s main short-term goals are to speed up GPT-4 and lower costs. They also want Multimodality in GPT4. The issue? GPU shortages, which have pushed the possible release to 2024.

  4. ChatGPT might be the last product to come out of OpenAI (for a while).

  5. Regulation and Open-source are the dynamic duo that will keep AI in check.

In other OpenAI news: Altman and team are announcing a Cybersecurity Grant Program ā€” a $1M initiative to encourage ā€œdefendersā€ (how Marvel of them) to create tools and projects that will help keep people safe.

āš”ļø Alibaba launches ChatGPT rival

Alibaba has emerged from the shadows to challenge OpenAIā€™s ChatGPT.

Their fighter?Ā Tongyi Qianwen (TQ), which literally translates to ā€œTruth from a Thousand Questions.ā€

Tongyi Qianwen is a large language model (LLM) thatā€™s part of Alibabaā€™s digital assistant, Tongyi Tingwu. The LLM is aimed at simplifying multimedia content for better comprehension and sharing.

TQ has been officially released for public testing and will eventually be integrated with DingTalk, Alibabaā€™s enterprise communication and collaboration platform.

Alibaba intends to continue finetuning the AI and has plans to include real-time multimedia content translation between Chinese and English later this year.

The multinational company hopes to increase its user base across several services and wants users to report their findings to improve the AI.

šŸ¤–Ā NVIDIA's Neuralangelo AI model

Nvidia is on an absolute tear.

Their research arm recently created an AI model, Neuralangelo, that can generate 3D objects from 2D videos taken by anything, from a phone to a drone (unintentional rhyme). Check out this cool video demo.

Neuralangelo can capture the object's depth, size, and shape by selecting different frames of the subject from various angles in the video.

The model can also capture details such as textures, patterns, and color variations, including surfaces like ā€œthe roughness of roof shingles and the smoothness of marble.ā€

Whyā€™s this important: The technology has immense potential applications in virtual reality experiences, architecture, art, robotics, and video games, where it can be used to create detailed objects like small statues or massive buildings in virtual environments.
