Google has made a significant move by partnering with Kairos Power to use small nuclear reactors for powering its AI data centers. This deal reflects a broader trend in the tech industry, where companies are increasingly turning to nuclear energy to meet the high electricity demands of AI and data centers while reducing carbon emissions.
The agreement outlines plans for Google to start using a nuclear reactor by 2030, with more reactors expected by 2035. Although financial details and locations for the plants have not been disclosed, this initiative represents an important step towards sustainable energy solutions for AI. Nuclear power, known for being carbon-free and providing continuous electricity, is seen as an ideal solution to support growing energy needs without exacerbating climate change.
Kairos Power, which received the first nuclear reactor permit in 50 years, is currently constructing a demonstration reactor in Tennessee. Their reactors use molten fluoride salt as a coolant, a safer alternative to the water-based systems in traditional nuclear plants.

H2O.ai has unveiled two new multimodal foundation models, H2OVL Mississippi 2B and 0.8B, aimed at enhancing optical character recognition (OCR) and Document AI applications. These models, designed for efficiency and high performance, are compact but powerful, making them ideal for enterprise use.
Here’s the breakdown:
The smaller H2OVL Mississippi 0.8B has outperformed leading small vision language models (SVLMs) and even larger models like InternVL2-26B in OCR text recognition benchmarks.
Its larger counterpart, H2OVL Mississippi 2B, rivals state-of-the-art models in handling complex vision and language tasks, offering impressive performance on single-image benchmarks.
These models are available on Hugging Face, where developers can adapt and fine-tune them for specific use cases for free.
Overall: H2O.ai’s models are set to power the company’s h2oGPTe Agentic RAG platform, providing businesses with cost-effective, AI-driven solutions for real-time document analysis and image recognition.
CEO Sri Ambati highlighted that these models blend advanced multimodal AI with efficiency, delivering scalable Document AI solutions across various industries.
