Greetings, fellow humans. 👋
This is Not A Bot - the newsletter about AI that was definitely not written by AI. I’m Haroon, founder of AI For Anyone, and I share the latest news, tools, and resources from the AI space.
I heard the viral Drake x Weeknd song over the weekend and quite liked it, but I have to say AI still has some ways to go. Drake needed a lot more autotune to make it realistic. 🎶
Let’s dive into it…

🪰 Adobe’s Firefly gets ready to take off
Adobe has finally revealed more details about its still-in-beta Firefly, a tool launched in March that uses AI to simplify the process of image and video editing. It will enable users to:
Make animated text effects based on a description
Make color corrections and enhancements to photos and videos
Find b-roll footage based on video context
Generate broadcast-safe sound effects and music
Auto-generate storyboards and pre-visualizations based solely on written scripts.
All in all, this reads as plenty of $$$ saved for photo/video creators while reducing the amount of grunt work involved with producing content. But it is also worth noting that all we have seen are demos of these features. As Adobe eyes a Q3/Q4 launch date, more will come to light.
Will their photo generation be better or worse than MidJourney? Let us know your thoughts by replying to this email!

💀 OpenAI slows down the hype train
Mr. AI Sam Altman declared that the research strategy used to develop ChatGPT and other language-based AI models is now “played out” and that further progress will require new ideas.
This comes at the heels of Google and Microsoft implementing the technology while startups have poured resources into building even bigger algorithms.
Some AI experts, tech entrepreneurs, and scientists have called for a six-month pause on developing anything more potent than GPT-4. OpenAI has stated that they’re not developing the next generation of their GPT models just yet, but it’ll be interesting to see what product launches they come up with in the coming weeks/months.
What this means:
We probably won’t be seeing GPT-5 for a while. AI doomsayers, take a deeeep breadth - your jobs are safe (for now).
It also means that further progress will come from new model designs based on human feedback.

⚔️ Google’s AI Redemption plan
It’s about damn time.
After its major de-BARD-cle, Google is finally grabbing a seat at the big boy table with news of their AI-based search engine "Magi", offering a more personalized experience than their current service.
The current release date is set for May… and believe me, we are all thinking the same thing: “Why so soon?”
Well, Samsung is considering switching to Microsoft's Bing as the default search engine on its devices, which could cost Google up to $23 billion in annual revenue. As MFM listeners would say, that’s not some Small Boi Stuff.
This is Google’s chance to step it up. If they can pull this off, they can uphold their dominance in the search space and maintain the status quo. If not, well…

Hype grows over “autonomous” AI agents that loop GPT-4 outputs (ArsTechnica)- AutoGPT and BabyAGI are open-source projects that use GPT-4 API to complete complex tasks with minimal human intervention. The scripts are still in the early stages and require human input, but they represent a step towards more autonomous AI models. Despite the hype, GPT-4 has limited interpretive intelligence and may be prone to confabulations. (Read more)
