🤖 Google announces Bard in response to ChatGPT

Yesterday, Google announced the release of its new artificial intelligence chatbot technology called "Bard," which is expected to roll out in the coming weeks.

Here’s a sneak peek:

Bard is powered by Google's large language model LaMDA and will be tested by "trusted testers" before being widely available.

CEO Sundar Pichai stated that Bard will simplify complex topics and provide easy-to-understand information, to provide accurate and safe information.

This announcement comes ahead of Google’s event (scheduled for tomorrow) about “using the power of AI to reimagine how people search for, explore and interact with information, making it more natural and intuitive than ever before to find what you need.”

Looks like Google timed their event perfectly, ahead of any more big news from power couple Microsoft and OpenAI, right? Right?!

📽️ Runway, the startup behind Stable Diffusion, launches generative AI for video

Runway (@runwayml), the startup behind Stable Diffusion, has developed an AI model called Gen-1 that can transform existing videos into new ones with any style specified by a text prompt or reference image.

Gen-1 is a step up in video quality from other models, and Runway has developed it with customers in mind. Runway hopes that Gen-1 will have a similar impact on video to what Stable Diffusion did for images, leading to the possibility of feature films being generated by AI.

Also, great timing - I released my interview with Runway CEO, Cristóbal Valenzuela (@c_valenzuelab) just yesterday!

During our chat, we cover a range of topics, including:

  • Runway's role in the future of AI-generated art

  • The AI art ownership debate

  • Predictions about the future of art

AI-generated 'Seinfeld' suspended on Twitch for AI-generated transphobic jokes... [TechCrunch] - This is why we can’t have nice things. AI-generated “Seinfeld” spin-off "Nothing, Forever" was suspended from Twitch for 14 days after its AI character Larry Feinberg delivered a transphobic standup routine. The creators of "Nothing, Forever" admit that the AI content filter was not appropriately incorporated when switching models, leading to transphobic jokes. This incident highlights the potential danger of AI-generated entertainment when left unchecked and the contrast between AI's swift action and the Grammy award won by Dave Chappelle for his transphobic comedy album.

This VC Is Slowly Automating Their Job [Every.to] - Yohei (@yoheinakajima), a venture capitalist, has been building tools to help automate his job. These tools range from summarizing emails from his kids' schools to generating investment memos based on a website. He believes that time is the number one blocker for a venture capitalist and aims to use these tools to allocate his time and help founders better more. He believes that AI can help VCs with tasks such as summarizing interactions and aiding in investment decisions, but he still believes that gut instinct and pattern recognition are helpful at the pre-seed stage.

Exclusive Interview: OpenAI’s Sam Altman Talks ChatGPT And How Artificial General Intelligence Can ‘Break Capitalism’ [Forbes] - In this exclusive interview, Sam Altman (@sama), CEO of OpenAI, discusses the company's AI model ChatGPT, artificial general intelligence, and the future of Google Search. He views OpenAI's journey as a continual exponential path of improvement with the potential to make a large impact on society. He believes there should be multiple AGIs in the world and that AI offerings will spread out. He mentions the potential for AGI to "break capitalism" and discusses the need to design a new corporate structure if AGI is achieved. He also discusses the need to open-source models while being mindful of the potential risks.
