🏃 Meta finally joins the AI marathon
Meta has finally doubled down on the whole AI gig, shifting its focus from its first child, the Metaverse. Insert second child stereotype here.
Zuck had a big all-hands last week where he announced the development of several AI technologies that will be implemented across their consumer products, including:
AI chatbots for Messenger and WhatsApp
Text prompts to modify Insta images/stories
Productivity assistant
Experimental interface for interacting with AI agents.
Quick work, Marky.
Meta aims to introduce AI chatbots, or “agents,” first on Messenger and WhatsApp, with plans to expand across its family of applications and eventually to their smart glasses.
Zuck also spoke with Lex Friedman about Meta’s AI future and the challenges AI development currently faces. Check out the full podcast here.
Exciting stuff, but does this mean the Metaverse will now take a backseat?

🤖 Salesforce is all about AI
Salesforce is crushing it, and Marc Benioff could not be happier.
After a massively successful quarter, thanks to AI, Salesforce released details of several new AI products planned for the company.
The range of new products under development includes:
Upgrades to their chatbot, Einstein, including integration with Slack and developer tools to let customers add their AI chat.
GPT tools for Slack and Tableau that will allow users to do tasks via natural language commands
AI products across platforms like Marketing, Consumer, and Commerce Cloud to automate tasks from personalized emails to analyzing engagement.
Why is this important: AI and the stock market seem to go hand in hand, and it’s very interesting to see a company’s financial performance improve as it integrates AI into its products.
In the words of Morgan Stanley Analyst Keith Weiss: "Generative AI = Entering the Next Tech Super Cycle. Like Cloud, mobile and social, AI will be a revolutionary innovation cycle that will spark a massive new tech buying cycle, in management's view."
Hope this ain’t just another tech bubble.

🥷 Fighting Loneliness
Take a look at this loneliness chart from the American Time Use Survey.
The takeaway is simple - the older we get, the more time we spend with ourselves :(
It’s a sad and scary notion but one that seems to be inevitable.
To help combat that, Intuition Robotics has developed an AI companion named ElliQ that aims to help older adults feel less lonely, achieving “healthier, happier aging.”
Founder Dor Skuler says that while social media may contribute to teen loneliness, technology can have the opposite effect on older adults.
The product has been in beta testing for several years and is now being distributed to American seniors through various state aging agencies.
Should be interesting to see the impact AI can have on old age loneliness.

Hyperdimensional Computing Reimagines Artificial Intelligence [Wired] - Hyperdimensional computing is an approach to computation centered on using hyperdimensional vectors, or hypervectors, to represent the information. Hypervectors represent each piece of information, like the shape or color of an object, with a single entity. Hypervectors can be manipulated with three mathematical operations: multiplication, addition, and permutation. Hyperdimensional computing is efficient and robust, making it possible to solve problems symbolically and be transparent about the reasoning behind machine-made decisions. (Read more)
Microsoft adds AI voice chat to Bing on desktop [Engadget] - Microsoft has introduced an AI voice chat feature to Bing on desktop, powered by OpenAI's GPT-4 technology and available in English, Japanese, French, German, and Mandarin.
