💨 DeepMind’s algorithms sort data faster than humans

Google DeepMind just launched AlphaDev, an AI system that uses reinforcement learning to create sorting algorithms that work up to three times faster than human-created ones.

Definition of Sorting Algorithms: Sorting Algorithms are essentially code that can organize several items in a particular order. Here is a visual representation:

AlphaDev was modeled on the AlphaZero AI, used by DeepMind for board games, and can generate faster algorithms. It is already part of two standard C++ coding libraries and is being used by programmers worldwide.

The engineers at DeepMind also plan to apply AlphaZero algorithms to other areas, such as hardware design.

Why’s this important: In Google’s words -“We see this as an important stepping stone for using AI to optimize the world’s code, one algorithm at a time.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

✍️ Copywrite with LinkedIn’s AI

In March, LinkedIn introduced a “conversation starter” AI tool that would allow you to use AI to write the intro to a post. Later that same month, they launched the ability for AI to write recruitment posts and improve user profiles.

Now, LinkedIn has introduced an OpenAI-powered tool to suggest different introductory text to ads.

The copywriting suggestion feature allows marketers to input their copy into the “introductory text” box within the Campaign Manager and select an option from the drafts it produces.

The AI uses data from the marketer’s LinkedIn page and Campaign Manager setting, including objective, targeting criteria, and audience, to suggest different introductory text to the ad.

This is just V1. The company plans to add new functionalities in the future, including:

  • New geographies

  • Support for more languages

😵‍💫 Fake Election Ads are here

A still from the video by the “DeSantis War Room.” Can you tell which image is real and which is fake?

Oh lord, election season is about to be WILD.

On June 5th, this video was posted on the “DeSantis War Room” Twitter account. It was a fake campaign ad targeting Donald Trump using doctored images of him embracing Anthony Fauci.

The purpose of the ad is to show Trump’s support of Fauci, a former White House chief medical advisor, a key figure in developing the US response to COVID-19, and someone widely disliked by right-wing politics.

Why’s this important: Elections are coming up, which means that targeted video campaigns are going to run rampant.

And as political campaigns continue to “blur the line between parody and disinformation,” it will be more important than ever to ensure “accurate” information reigns supreme.

What does this mean? It’s simple - the general population will have to be much more diligent when they consume information online.

It should be a fun year ahead.
