🤖 BCG’s AI report

Consulting giant BCG’s AI report was making the rounds on Twitter yesterday. If you haven’t seen it yet, we got your back.

BCG surveyed 13,000 C-suite leaders and managers for the “AI at Work” report -f here is a quick summary:

  • 62% of leaders surveyed are bullish on AI’s future, compared to 42% of frontline employees.

  • 80% of leaders use AI regularly, compared to 20% of frontline employees

  • 68% of leaders feel they can responsibly use AI, compared to 29% of frontline employees.

  • 44% of leaders received AI training, compared to 14% of frontline employees

  • Overall, 79% of respondents feel that AI should be regulated.

Thoughts: Leaders have a more optimistic view of AI than frontline employees. Why?

  • Leaders are not scared of their jobs being taken.

  • Leaders are more at liberty to experiment with these v0/v1 tools and marvel at their excellence rather than use them in their day-to-day jobs to execute

  • Frontline workers, who tend to do the majority of the heavy lifting (work-wise), see no benefits of AI since they can’t reliably use any of the tools at their disposal.

  • There is also a lack of AI training for frontline workers, resulting in the inability to use AI tools efficiently.

Now, it’s important to recognize that we are just at the start of what is looking to be the technological revolution of this generation, but stats like this are important to track.

More training and more exposure will allow daily users to understand the power of AI tools and dissipate any fears of AI affecting jobs in the near future.

Speaking of consulting firms, Accenture is getting ready to double down on its AI bet.

Accenture announced it would invest $3 billion in AI over three years to broaden its Data & AI practice and offer new industry solutions and pre-built models.

The company will also double its current AI talent pool to 80,000 employees and is rolling out a new platform called AI Navigator for Enterprise, a generative AI-based platform designed to help “guide clients through building and using AI in their businesses.”

Accenture's investment and AI efforts come as other consulting firms like PwC and EY also make significant investments in AI, and concerns over job losses due to AI-powered automation persist.

🐕‍🦺 UN’s AI Watchdog Agency

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed openness to establishing a UN agency dedicated to AI.

While he lacks the authority to create such an agency, he said that outside experts, including two from the AI sphere, would be part of an upcoming scientific advisory body he will appoint.

Guterres also announced plans for a digital compact aimed at promoting facts, exposing lies, and helping governments and tech companies navigate ethical and legal issues related to misinformation and hate speech.

The code of conduct will be issued before the UN Summit of the Future in September 2024.

Model UN is about to get a whole lot more fun.
